Player Wellbeing Officer (PWO)
As part of the commitment in supporting young players with their mental health and wellbeing, successful clubs must commit to appointing a PWO. This position is supported and trained by RTP.
How long are the education sessions?
Sessions are fun, interactive and games based and aim to run for approximately one hour, either in lieu of training or after a training session at the clubrooms.
When will the sessions be held?
Clubs can choose a date from;
Week of 27 November 2023, Week of 4 December 2023, Week of 11 December 2023, Week of 5 February 2024, Week of 12 February 2024, Week of 19 February 2024, Week of 26 February 2024.
What if my players have done this through football and netball?
In 2023, Read the Play ran the MVP session with AFL Barwon and GDFNL 15/U netball & U16 football and the Play On session with a number of Geelong United Basketball pathway players. Although the content/message is the same, Read the Play has adjusted all programs to be delivered differently, meaning a player that completes either program again, won’t be aware.
What is the EOI process?
The EOI process is open for applications from Monday 30 October 2023 and will close at 5pm on Monday 13 November 2023.
If more than 10 club applications are received, representatives from Read the Play and the Geelong Cricket Association will meet to shortlist applications.
Clubs will be notified of EOI outcome by Friday 17 November 2023.
