Read the Play has partnered with VIVA Energy to provide Barwon region based sporting clubs the opportunity for Read the Play to deliver a free one hour mental health education session at 10 clubs during 2024.

How do Clubs apply?
Applications are to be completed via the online form below.

What age groups are best?
RTP sessions are appropriate for 14-18 year olds. Sessions can be arranged for one age group or a combination of age groups. ie – Boys U17 & Girls U18 or Girls U15 (we can accommodate any request).

How many players in a session?
Due to the interactive nature of the Read the Play program, numbers are set at a minimum of 20 and maximum of 40 participants per session. If you have less than 20 or more than 40 participants please make note in the application process.

Player Wellbeing Officer (PWO)
As part of the commitment in supporting young players with their mental health and wellbeing, successful clubs must commit to appointing a PWO. This position is supported and trained by RTP. 

How long are the education sessions?
Sessions are fun, interactive and games based and aim to run for approximately one hour, either in lieu of training or after a training session at the clubrooms (or agreed location).

When will the sessions be held?
Session date will be planned in consultation with the club and when it suits best.

What is the EOI process?
The EOI process is open for applications from Wednesday 21 February 2024 and will close at 5pm on Monday 25 March 2024 (EOI Extended until 8 April 2024).  
The EOI is open to sporting clubs in the Barwon region only. Due to current partnerships this EOI is not applicable to football/netball (AFL Barwon & GDFNL), basketball (Geelong United Clubs) or cricket clubs (Geelong Cricket Assoc).
If more than 10 club applications are received, representatives from Read the Play will shortlist applications.
Clubs will be notified of EOI outcome by Monday 8 April 2024 (Extended to 22 April 2024) .

Please Note:

The EOI is open to sporting clubs in the Barwon region only. Due to current partnerships this EOI is not applicable to football/netball (AFL Barwon & GDFNL), basketball (Geelong United Clubs) or cricket clubs (Geelong Cricket Assoc).

RTP will be delivering programs to AFL Barwon, GDFNL, GUB and GCA Clubs as per existing relationships.

  • Read the Play - Huddle Up

    Huddle up is a community-based program for young people (14- 16 years), that aims to increase knowledge on mental health, promote help seeking behaviour and influence beliefs and attitudes related to identifying and responding to their peers who may be at risk of mental ill-health or cyber bullying.
  • Read the Play – MVP

    MVP is a games-based, interactive program for young people (14-16 years), that aims to increase knowledge on mental health, promote help seeking behavior and influence beliefs and attitudes related to identifying and responding to their peers who may be at risk of mental ill-health or suicide.
  • Read the Play - Play On

    Play On is a community-based program for people (16–18-years), that aims to increase mental health literacy and knowledge of the impact underage alcohol use can have on mental health outcomes within local sporting communities. The program will have a strong focus on influencing beliefs and attitudes towards underage drinking and increasing confidence in being able to respond to peers who may benefit from support for their drug and alcohol use.
